I have a NYC carry permit and am in a dangerous business. NYC only allows 1 pistol for the first year and then a second choice (2 total, stupid I know ) on the license after the probation period. Out of all of my handguns, my choice was my Colt 1911 series 80 MKIV officers. I have em all and that is what made me feel protected. When I was allowed my number two, I chose a small revolver in case of the ever possible jam. To this day my .45 is my favorite .

I agree can the 9mm, but when and if you go back to the 45acp, give our boys and girls the very best in equipment, that means durability, reliability, easy maintenance, and large capacity!

As a Tax payer, what I see is for every Colt 1911 the Federal Governments buys with my money, They could have bought at least 2 if not 3 Glocks. There is a reason that the worlds police forces and Militaries use Glocks!

My Math also says $5,625 per 1911, yep i can see lots of that money ending up in the Democrtaes war chest! At that cost you could buy 11 Glocks for every 1 1911, thats 44,000 Glocks at the same cost as 4000 1911's
    ... see conspiracies much?

I'm also assuming that these 1911's will me more tactical in nature then what was available 50 years ago. Are we talking about the same identical side arm from WWII ? No.

I wonder, really, what the statistics are from the military on how many people were hurt from a discharge caused by dropping a 1911.

I have heard that if the series 80 hammer safety fails, the pistol becomes a paperweight although it doesn't happen often.

Just read on Fox New basically what OP posted, probably some others out there by now (FWIW Sticking to their guns: Marines place $22.5M order for the Colt .45 M1911 | Fox News ) You can always rely on the USMC to make a frontal assault on a great idea....the only down side that I see is that it will likely drive up demand and subsequently the prices on Colt and other 1911, but that's why capitalism works and Socialism dosen't,...glad I recently purchased a used Kimber 1911,...guess that angel that kept wispering in my ear... "You better buy it, you better buy it now!" ... must have known something I didn't.

If I get invited to a 901 round (or 1100) gunfight, I'll bring my PT1911, too. The Colt will stay home.
