Last week the local gun shop ran a special on a uberti single action. I have been looking at the vaquero for a long while but the uberti at "low power" just seems to appeal to me. I have 629s, 500s and mucho magnums. Maybe thats why I dot have a vaquero (I don't need another mag). But the uberti seems interesting more for its moderation in powerful than balls to the wall power. What do you guys think of uberti as a maker? How accurate is the gun and can mod the trigger to a target trigger? I would like to deer hunt with the gun out to 50 yards or so. If its not up to the challenge I would rather buy a vaquero and send it off to a smith.
Thanks. MW

I've been looking at the same guns. From what I gather, the New Vaquero is good to go out of the box, for high volume Cowboy Action Shooting, the Uberti -- not so much. On the other hand, the Uberti has a nicer fit and finish than the Vaquero as shipped. From what people say, with the Uberti, if you shoot it often, you'll have to replace parts farily frequently. Apparently it's not very expensive or difficult to do so, but the Uberti (because it's a Colit-like design) is a more fragile gun than the rugged Vaquero. Supposedly, they both shoot very well. I wouldn't mind having either one, or better still one of each.

It will depend on what you plan to do and what you will shoot. The Ubertis are made with modern materials to an 1870's design;you cannot shoot high power loads. If you want to hunt and plink buy the Vaquero. The old model is strong beyond belief and can be easily be slicked up while retaining it's safety features; you could carry it with 6 aboard. Don't ever try this with an SAA clone.
That said, I own Rugers in 44 Mag, Colts in 357, and Colt clones in 45C. The Colts can shoot full 357 mags but not too many, the clones digest downloaded 45C for Cowboy but the Vaqueros shoot everything. The Rugers were my first Cowboy pistols.
Buy the Rugers and don't look back!

I currently have one Cimarron/Uberti up for sale on gunbroker. When it is gone, I'm done with them. I've went through countless Model P's and
Model P Jr's. They are cool but just not, all that.
Rugers simply cannot be beat for durability. The Only Ruger centerfires I feel are worth a darn are the Stainless Old Model Vaqueros 44 mag and the
Stainless 32 Mag single sixes or "Vaqueritos" as they are commonly called. That's the only SAA's I have left.
Uberti concerns are listed well above.

Just understand... there are old Vaqueros (built on the Blackhawk frame) and New Vaqueros (built on a slightly smaller frame, I'm guessing to appeal to the CAS crowd.) Someone correct me if I am wrong.
I have an old Vaquero, 5.5" in .45Colt that is my workhorse camp gun... it's my beater. Accurate it's not, but dependable... and who can argue with that big 260 or 300grn .45 cal slug? I have a Bisley in .41 built on the same type frame... no worries about hot loads.
However, it's my understanding the New Vaquero is not designed to handle the 'Ruger only' heavy handloads. If you can step away from heavy handloads, you should be fine with the New Vaquero.

Charlie, you are correct. The NV 357's are nice guns but as to the strength of the new smaller Vaquero frame...They don't make it in 44 magnum, only 44 special.
The new models are great guns but my only complaint on Ruger blued is the fake case coloring. I think if you are gonna do Ruger, do stainless.

I actually like the case coloring on my Vaquero, fake or not. It's not nearly as handsome as the case colored frame with the charcoal blued steel of the Uberti, but that is a matter of preference.
My Bisley is stainless; despite the benefits of stainless, I wish my Bisley was CC/blue like my Vaquero.
New Vaquero in .44 SPC, eh? As much as I personally don't get along with Ruger pistols... that one might be worth a try.

All that reall matters is that under that CC is a tuff SOB. I passed my CC Blued 44mag Vaquero to my son after installing
the black checkered grips and it was a sweet rig.
I'll say this about the Colt clones as a final word, They are getting so dang expensive you might as well save up for a Colt SAA for
about $900-$1200
