    Re: The Holster Thread

    Ripped nearly off his belt?!!?

I'd have to guess if that ape had done that with a leather holster, the officer would have been left with a tattered rag of a belt hoop dangling from their breeches.

I've owned two Blackhawk Serpa level 2 holsters, one for the XD platfrm, the other for 1911s. These come with a belt attachment and an optional paddle, both attached with screws directly to the holster, with 5 or 6 possible carrying positions.

The paddle has a fixed hook out from your body, with two more position-adjustable hooks, that clamp under the bottom side of the wearer's belt from the inside of the pants. Not your typical paddle setup.

The first time I tried the paddle attachment, it took a bit of wiggling but I finally got everything seated per the instructions. Trying to remove the mounted holster initially resulted in a fully-clothed, self-inflicted wedgie. My wife was in full inquisitor mode, as I had to undo my pants and belt, then pry the paddle portion away from the holster body and fish the pants and belt out of the assembly.

I (and my formerly compressed nether regions) have full faith in the Blackhawk Serpas.

It was awhile back, probably '92-93 if I had to guess. One of the older designs, not the Blackhawk stuff, I'm sure. It's likely a lot of my prejudice against the Kydex stuff is based on older, inferior designs. You know how us geezers get.

Glad to hear of your faith in the Sherpas............but about the compressed places.......not so much. :P

The El Paso crossdraw designs have been calling me for a few years now.

Gonna have to pull the trigger.

Talk about a tough act to follow............anyone want to try? As much as Marlin folks tend to be traditionalists about walnut, blued steel and leather, I'm pretty sure there are some awesome holsters out there we haven't seen yet!

    Re: The Holster Thread

I ordered a Don Hume IWB model like the one IN1894SS showed earlier. I was sent one for an M&P .45 instead of .40, and have been going round and round with the seller thru Amazon.com. I should have ordered it from Don Hume, must have been yet another brain cramp. The holster looks very well made, it's almost a good enough fit to use. I just came to my senses and ordered one from Don Hume, I'll continue the battle with amazon and the seller. I liked the holster enough to order one for my M&P compact, too, it works way better than the Galco Summer Special, for me.

+1. I've spent many MANY hundreds if not thousand(s) of dollar at El Paso Saddlery. Fantastic quality work.

The rig I pack every day is about 20 years old (3" belt and 1880 crossdraw) and looks like its been packed for a 100. The leather is very supple and while looks worn (it isn't) from all the miles, it should still be good for at least another 50 years without any appreciable wear.

I don't have one yet, but I'm thinking very hard about getting a new Range Master holster for my S&W M10.

I think that one's worthy of a photo or three. Agree?
