Well today officially ended my deer season. As i sat in the stand with darkness quickly overtaking the last hints of daylight i began to rethink the deer season ive had.
I killed my deer early, taking my 4th and final deer in early December. We had meat in the freezer so it was time to turn to hunting for antlers. I saw a couple nice bucks but never could get a shot. What i did get to see was bucks sparring for the first time, bucks chasing does for the first time, heard a buck grunt and wheeze during a challenge for the first time, and just got to watch deer interact with each other a lot. I also got to watch squirrels frolicking about, not being aware of my prescence. Had some wood ducks on the pond entertaining me several mornings. Got to watch turkey move about, also unaware of my presence. Saw some nice gobblers too. Called in some hens to within 10 feet, and they never saw me. I was wearing blaze orange and no camo...
Ahhh, and another first, Hannah took her first deer, bringing the total for the Joe S. clan to 5. What a great memory we made new years day!! One i hope i never forget...
The Good Lord blessed me this season even tho i didnt get my wall hanger or limit out. It was by far the best season ive had in my life. I give all the glory to Him, the creator of all things.
Thanks for listening, er, reading...

Mity glad you folks had a good season both making meat and otherwise. My season consisted of 3 squirrels and 2 white tails fading into the dark woods. But like you I had a ball and enjoyed every minute spent out "there"!

It Ain t all about the killin'. Time in the blind is soothing. The day my oldest daughter took her first deer was priceless and will live in my memory forever.
I like watching the squirrels frolicking in the frying pan!

Worst season I have ever had. Hunted at my boy's place and had some good bucks on camera but it was always at 4am or 8pm. Smart deer. It wasn't that bad because I got to spend some time with my youngest son who had recently got married. Its kinda funny but I understand how he feels because he had bought the 20 acres and moved a trailer house in on it and is clearing it and everytime I go over the first thing we do is to drive around on his place. The place is bordered by woods on each side and in the back but is only 300 ft wide but a little over 1/2 mile deep so it don't take too long to get to the back of it. We joke about it but he is very proud of his place and I am very proud of him.
When he planted his oat patch he went to Walmarts and bought one of the little packs of deer browse they sell to mix in with his oats but he bought turnip seeds by mistake. He has raised some of the best purple top turnips I have ever seen. About a week into deer season he asked me what that leafy stuff was growing in his oat patch amd I told him they looked like turnips and lo and behold they were. So I guess you could say I didn't have a very good deer season but I had a Hell of a turnip season.
