Well since the wolves have eaten all the deer and elk up around here I was fortunate to be invited to hunt a private ranch in central MT.
I had a doe tag for that part of the state and decided to filled it with my M1 Garand. I was hitting a 8X8" gong at 200 yards kneeling so I felt good enough to try for a deer and when a doe walked up to about 50 yards from me it was no problem to hit her in the neck. It was sweeeeeeet!
Then I went out the next day on top of a Butte that was flat as a pancke and did a belly crawl for 60 yards to get within 310 yards of a nice 5X5 whitie. I ran out of cover and 5 antelope had me spotted. I opened the bipods ranged the buck and held right and shot. The buck jumped and ran about 120 yards and topped over. I used my Rem 700 in 280 Rem. with handloads using 140 Nosler Ballistic Tips. The bullet went through and out the other side and left a big hole. While dressing the buck, I do not know how he ran at all as the lungs were totally destroyed.
My son got a nice buck and doe also. A great weekend. I had one tub of burger left to package and had it locked in the garage and last night a grizzly just lifted the garage door up, breaking the over head door latch and got at the carcasses and scrap fat amd meat. He knocked the hamburger over but left it alone. So I was able to salvage most of it.

Very nice buck and some good meat too... The grizzly breaking in your garage had to be a little unnerving...

Man that's awesome. Congrats and happy eating.

Great Job! I have a Garand that shoots good that I get tempted to buy the 5 shot clip and hunt with but at mid fifties the lighter guns win out everytime.
