I know a full moon affects deer and hogs. what I was wondering is, when blackies are feeding on fruits and berries in the fall, prior to hibernation, will a full moon affect the number of daytime sightings?
My guess is yes. I can only speculate, but when the moon is full the deer stay up all night feeding and therefore don't need to move about during the day as much...seems like they're scarcer then.
One could only guess the bears do the same thing, though looking around for berries and such is probably harder than mowing the lawn like the deer seem to do.

I haven't made a study of this but I know that the phases of the moon effect gravitational pull. It's not all about the extra light for seeing. I would expect that activity patterns vary with the moon for bears as well.
I have found that the commonly available SoLunar Tables have some predictive value relative to animal activity levels at various hours of the day and night. Don't see why bears would be any different.

Full Moon in Idaho means bad huntin.Them game animals are not that dumb.In Idaho they eat like Elvis..At night when there is a full moon.
Jayco
Full moom always means poor hunting, because they can see at night to feed and bed down and sleep most of the day.
Hence the need for new legislation allowing the sportsman to utilize Gen III night vision technology in conjunction with bait to make clean ethical harvests of tastey animals to fill the freezer and feed the family. :lol:Originally Posted by Bear 45/70
During the waxing and waning full moon I only hunt between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. I perfer to hunt mid-mornings during a new moon, especially for hogs during the summer.
