    Mauser .22 caliber

Stopped in the pawn shop looking for you know what, only had 1 Marlin there a Model 25, any who.....1 rifle caught my attention, turned out to be a Mauser .22 cal. the barrel on this thing is diameter big for a .22. and very heavy, I actually grunted a bit when I tried to lift it. Had a rosewood tip and the action sure did look like a Mauser action, the front end of the stock was pretty flat on bottom leading me to believe that this was a definite target/practice rifle for sniping. Perhaps I can get them to let me get a couple pics and some info off of it. In the meantime anybody have any guesses as to what I saw? Mr fixit

Custom target rifle on a Mauser action would be my guess per description.

Mauser (and FN, IIRC) made .22 rimfire trainer versions of the fabled 98. It's possible someone "sporterized" one of those, or it may be one of the pre-war commercial rimfire Mausers like the Model 340 or 420.

h my...18lbs...no wonder I grunted. Got a chance to go back to the pawn shop(always looking for Marlins ya know) anyways they have it listed as .22 caliber Model 22250 (since the action looks like center fire) I'm assuming it's the 22-250, for sale there and in need of refinishing $399.95 +tax.
