Memorial Day is separate than Veteran's Day....It's the time we pay our highest respects, honor, filed with our individual prayers, blessings, hopes and remembrance for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the United States of America.
Veterans should be thanked everyday; for the step into harms way is never done with malice of forethought towards our enemy, but instead with honor and integrity to protect that which we cherish. It's a Burden, humbly acknowledged and accepted, place upon the shoulders of all that feel the need to keep America free from tyranny and terrorism; without intimidation from those destined to change our way of life.
"The Oath" solemnly taken is always done with a heavy heart, in concert with his or hers own relationship with God. It is the highest praise one can give to their country, free of guilt, to protect it's boundaries and shores from all it's invaders and aggressors; And yet, some do not return. We are left not only with what might of been, but the knowledge, and with a deep breath, a chance that their sacrifice was not in vain.
No other gift can be appreciated more or given the highest acknowledgment, than the gift of life, given by another.
Least We Forget...
I would be proud to walk the "Markers" with my Marlin upon my shoulders, to let those who lay there, know they can rest in peace.
"Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:
1. Jesus Christ
2. The American G. I.
One died for your soul, the other for your freedom."

+1000 Kid! You got it exactly right and I (and lots of others) thank you for that!! I care and I do give thanks to the Maker and all those brave folks who gave all for this country! John

I am feeling the same way. Our freedom comes with a price. There is something great to say for the ones that have fallen, They were the ones that say no harm comes to the ones I protect on my watch. We should all give thanks that our LORD that gives us such men and women to protect us.
Without these heros, we would be a defeated race.
God bless them all.

HEAR HEAR! God Bless our Fallen and their families - "Thank You" falls infinitely short

Kid Sopris,
Very eloquently said. I have never read or heard a higher tribute.
On my property in Florida I have erected a Monument to 46 of these Heroes from our Company, whom I served with, and who lost their lives during that time. It lists our unit, their name, rank and date of death and at the bottom, the Ode of Remembrance by Laurence Binyin:
“They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
we will remember them”
The Memorial was erected in the name of these brave warriors, however, the intent was to honor all of our Nation's Heroes in their names.
We owe our very lives and the lives of all our loved ones to people such as these; men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice throughout history so that we can live free.
When we forget, we will no longer be free.

Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights
'The oaks are just too greedy
We will make them give us light'
Now there's no more oak oppression
For they passed a noble law
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, axe and saw

Very eloquent. And yes, do not wish me a Happy Memorial Day, obviously you don't get it. Thank you Kid

Kid, you got it right. I know the TV shows honor all vets on Memorial Day but I tell my kids Veteran's Day is for people like me that have served, Memorial Day is for those that died for us. Those that served and died for our country at the very minimum deserve their own special day. Make sure you send up a prayer for them before you dig into the food today. It's the least they deserve.
Middle aged, middle class, blue collar white guy. I hunt, fish, eat meat, wear the skins of animals for clothes and burn fossil fuels for fun and profit. Everything is my fault and I am OK with that.

Kid, ya got it right, on this one. Thanks to all our vets both past and present, they have kept us safe from harm, God Bless them All. Take care, just keep on keeping on, John.
Just keep on keeping on.
It's not what you do, it's how you do what you do, that counts.
