How do you remove a Rem 600 bolt?

A buddy of mine called last night and said he had picked up a Remington Model 600 in 35 Rem. at an auction for $300. Tonight I guess he thought I might have calmed down because he called me asking if I knew how to remove the bolt...I don't. I tried to find something on the internet but mostly found sites that want to sell me information. One place did tell me to open the bolt then depress a "bolt release" inside the receiver. I can't see it from 600 miles away and my buddy can't seem to find it. Can anyone help us? We need more information. Thanks for any help given.

Re: How do you remove a Rem 600 bolt?

Some actions and wood on the 600's are so tight that there is not much of a gap if any to stick a screwdriver in to depress the lever. Something very flat and thin works best. Taking the bolt out of a 600 always reminded me of unlocking a car door using a slim jim.

if it has an aftermarket stock you might need to remove it from the stock, my wife has one her dad made a stock for and it took me a while to figure out i needed to take the stock off. Otherwise something slim on the left side of the bolt and depress the bolt stop. good luck

Re: How do you remove a Rem 600 bolt?

I just use a key like a door key made of brass works for me on both my .222 and .350 shrug no problem, the bolt comes out.
I would never use something made of steal but that's just me.
I can't see how the stock would matter? it's the action( reciever) that your dealing with, Now my .350 does have a steal floor plate trigger gaurd (after market)
I just can't see how the stock would matter the action is just a tube really no wood should be in the way.
After about 30 guns the wife does not really know how many you have.
