How much did your rifle really cost ??

Well I think I have about $600 in my $325 336C 30-30 Win right now.Scope, rings, hammer extension, sling, and butt stock cover. All the extras sure add up!I just bought a new scope to go on it and that adds another $200 to the rifle.Grand total of $800.I had to add that up three times to make sure I had my figures right. If I had paid full price for the scope then I would have even more $ invested. And guess what, then I have to buy the ammo! So how much did your rifle really cost you.And for those of you that received your rifle as a gift we don't want to hear about it. JD

It adds up quickly doesn't it. My most recent one A 1955 336 SC $325. otd. Barrel cut and sight replaced $100. Scope $140. I had the mount and rings and the stuff to refinish the wood. $565.
I dont even want to think about the guide gun.

Add a case of factory ammo, and/or loading dies, brass, powder and bullets...

It's pretty amazing how much money a guy can tie up in one rifle.

Fellas, Fellas, this line of conversation must cease imediately. If word gets out to the CFO's and Manager's (read wives, and girlfriends) we will never be able to use the "got a great deal" again. Am I the only one who has had to buy a rifle because I got a great deal on some unique brass and dies?!!!! Whatever you do dont breath a word about how much a venison steak really costs. Dont, dont or we are all sunk. Think of the damage to the economy..... Besides thinking like this is just depressing...... CL

    Clover,

Luckily any wives/girlfriends reading this are probably members of MO (unless someone was dumb enough to give them their login) and fully understand. Of course if you are an MO twosome, that also means that your gun fund is split in half.

Also the problem with us guys is that we like a challenge. That's why we approach girls even though we secretly know we have not a chance.
But getting back to guns, sure it would be easier to just buy a new one, but where's the fun in that? We need to know that we just got the better of the other guy that sold us the gun. Plus a new gun has all the bells and whistles and then we wouldn't have anything to do but to shoot it. Come to think of it ...

Got a deal on my 1894D CCL in 44-40 new on a special order from a friend with a FFL that sold guns and ammo amongst other stuff. $545 including two boxes of Hornady CAS ammo. I got the reloading dies and turret press by the CFO (Mrs Willy) by mentioning that by including a new set of 357 carbide dies for her 1894C, I could make ammo for her gun faster. Sometimes it's all in the presentation.
    Aim Small.. Hit Small

What matters is marksmanship, shot selection, and bullet construction (mass, diameter and expansion behavior). These are things that don't tend to be found in ballistics tables

357 Magnum For when you just absolutely, positively have to shoot something.

This post is not about the short leash some guys are on its about rifle cost.Any way you dont spring for the total cost right away, you spread it out over time. That way she dont catch on near as quick.By the way you guys need to come up with a scheme like mine. When ever I need a high price part or something done to my gun I just go out and buy her what ever she wants and when I drag out the money to pay for it I just say,O Honey by the way I need Come to think of it my rifle cost about twice what I payed for it. O well it's still well worth it. JD

That reminds me of the time that I had an opportunity to buy my first car (we had no family car), and I used the argument on my mother
that I could then take her shopping so that we did not have to walk. God rest her soul, I think she really believed me.

Just think starting out with base cost of rifle at 800 or 1000 what it would cost ..
