Hey guys, don't know if anyone read it or not but their is a couple of good articles about the 30-30 round in the fall issue of Rifle magazine, it mainly talk about the round itself but very briefly mentions both the Martin and winchester rifle....it was a good article overall just thought it may be worth a read to anyone who may be interested.....

Yeah I saw it at a Tractor Supply and bought it. The articles on the 30-30 and 30-06 where good read'n material. Funny how both cartridges are 100+ yrs old still widely used today. I guess they work....
I didn't even bother reading the article about the various .300 magnums. Kinda useless for me...![]()

LT, you and I must think the same, I just read the skimmed through the pages and ended up only reading the articles on the 30-30s.... it seems that lately my favorite hunting round is the 30-30... but I have been wanting to get a 35rem, so after I get that we'll see if my opinion stays the same.....

You'll like the .35, it's a great woods cartridge for deer and hogs. A conventional 200gr round nose boolit is all you'll need.
I'm the opposite of most folks... I started with a .35 and I've never hunted with a 30-30. I'm planning on trying the 30-30 this season.... gotta see for myself if 30-30 boolits actually bounce off of deer![]()

30-30 bullets will go through two at a time.![]()
there was a doe looking at me through some pine branches and the only shot i had was right in the head. i couldnt tell where the body was in the brush. i took carefull aim, the deer was looking straight at me, the bullet went between the eyes, out of the skull, back into the deers spine, traveld down about 6 inches of spine, the bullet then slightly deflected out of the spine, traveled down the backstrap, hit the pelvic bone shattering it, then stopping between the skin and fat. if that bullet had not went into the spine after the skull, it would have passed through long ways on a 150 lb deer and i would not have recovered it. the bones didnt fragment the bullet either. it was a 170 grain hornady interlock. it looked like a textbook mushroom and it took out bones all the way down. fact is the first contact the bullet made was in and back out of the skull. great bullet, with more than enough power behind it with the 30-30 regardless of what you might have heard about the bullets bouncing off deer. hope you enjoyed my rant. it will always be testament to me and my hunting group.
