I would have never believed it

If I wasn't the guy that did it! Was at the range today over in Wisconsin Rapids area with the brother testing out some reloads I had made up. Didn't bring anything for a rest so to speak so off hand shooting was the name of the game until the wifes' nephew showed up with some mil-surp firearms and a couple of shooting bags. Brother put up a skeet at 50 yds says see if you can hit that off hand, within a few seconds the crosshairs said go. 1 Shot later I notice the skeet looks funny so I go down and retrieve it and this is what I found. Marlin 30AS 30-30, Federal 170 gr. Power-shok factory ammo, 4x scope. Think I'm going to make a frame for it.
Looked like this after the shot:

Just to show ya all I'm not yanking a chain:

It just don't get no cleaner that that!

All said and done, a good day at the range and I got to see the results of some of my handiwork! Mr fixit

It's one thing to do it in front of witnesses, better yet to do it with one of your own handloads............but what are ya gonna do for an encore?

Taint brag iffen you can do it.

The shooting world does produce trophy after trophy some big some small and some you must remember, yours is definately a trophy.

I do recommend gluing it to a hard piece of card stock framing it, scribe the appropiate data and have your witnesses sign and date it. Very good conversation piece for years to come.

I do have regrets for not doing that to a lot of targets I've done over the years.

Here is two of the most treasured shooting trophys I've ever had and kept, I consider better than my 10 shot .009 shot group target from shooting bench rest.

To get one of these you had to attend a 1999 rendevous at Howard City Conservation Club (Home of the Beaver Brigade), then you have to shoot 20 and 21 out of 21 shots offhand with a muzzleloader, but they were hand made and kiln fired one of a kind mugs my club contracted in 1999

My scores were 20 of 21 with flint, then 21 of 21 with percussion these are all woods walk targets made of steel varying from a bent piece of reinforcing rod (snake), bats, turkey, squirrel to a 3ft buffalo, ranges from 10 feet to 108 yards. I had a good day. The line matches that day were remembered well also. $

Re: I would have never believed it

PJ, sorry if you missed it, but this one went down to a Federal power-shok factory load, although I'm not complaining about the reload results either, the reloads are about the middle of the powder scale from low to max, these were some of my first reloads and I just didn't want to try and go big until I get some more experience. I think maybe the Marlin gods were smiling down on me, as this had been the 1st time in about 2 months since I've been able to get out and find some "ME" time. Either way, I agree it's a Trophy to put up. Mr fixit
