Back home in Texas my younger brother and a friend of his were out "hunting" with his bow and target point arrows.

Dad was watching them as they walked along the dirt road between our houses and couldn't figure out what they were doing. He could tell they were shooting arrows at something but couldn't figure out what so he got in his pickup and went to them to see.

The had found a 2' rattlesnake on the road and the first arrow went through him about 1/3 back from his head. They would shoot the other 3 arrows they had at him, dragging them out of range with the bow when they missed.

A shovel quickly ended that stand-off!

I've hunted Turkeys with a .45-70. Didn't get any though. Did shoot a squirrel however.

A friend of mine, rest his soul, took out a camel with the main gun on a M-1 during Desert Storm. I ask him why and he said he and his crew were board.

the first deer I ever killed I was about 7 I had a 410 single barrel. there was no buckshot for 410s in them days so daddy opened some shells and emptied out the shot and put in 7 split shot fishing sinkers. I killed a 4 point buck ahead of a pack of dogs.
I have never harvested an animal but I have KILLED QUITE A FEW !

I was out squirrel hunting one time with a bolt action .17 HM2 when a red fox decided to walk down the same path. It was a good shot but it wasn't enough gun and I wound up losing the animal. I wound up trading the gun to my son but still feel bad about taking the shot.

A chipmunk sitting in a pile of firewood at about 3 yards with a 20 gauge when I was around 12. All I found after I shot was a small tuft of fur.

I'm remembering an out of state deer hunt years ago, where turkeys were also legal. I saw a small group of hens way across a cut cornfield just browsing along, and I hadn't had a shot at anything for a few days. Thinking they were about out of range for my Ruger #1 .270 Win, I though I might as well try. That durned rifle never missed anything I shot at, and that turkey was no exception. I went to where it was laying after the hunt thinking I had our dinner. I picked it up by it's head and it was an empty feathered turkey skin, with legs. Everything else had disintegrated with that impact of the 130 gr. Nosler Ballistic tip.

I shot a woodchuck with a .30-06 once. Didn't mean to, was still-hunting in PA hardwoods and the lil guy came up behind me making the dry oak leaves sound like a freight train. I was about 17 also. Didn't find much leaft of him/her. Just some fur and a spot where the bullet plowed up the ground on the other side. Taught me a thing or two about being jumpy and trigger-finger control.
