A friend had a 38 special that wasn't shooting very well for him so I played around and worked up an accurate +P load with a 140 grain jacketed hollow point . We were shooting the new handloads when a gopher popped up in the wrong place at the right time. SPLAT !

Raccoon with a .58 caliber roundball out of a flintlock. Also, a fox squirrel with a 158-grain JSP .357 mag (it was a headshot though). And, for about 20 years (before my eyes changed) my go-to squirrel gun was an open-sighted .32 percussion.

Out deer hunting and not seeing/hearing anything other than red tree squirrels all day, they just wouldn't leave me alone. Dusted one up with the .45-70, pink mist.... quieted that woods right down.

Shot a red squirrel with a 30-06. Did not wreck the tail or the toe nails.

    Here's one for you!

When I was about twenty I was felling a large Ash tree that had split and was close to the cabin. I cut the notch and backcut. The tree started to go towards the backcut!
What to do? Couldn't just leave it.
Inspiration struck and I drove into town. I bought 10 boxes of 12 gauge slugs!
I started shooting at the notch.
The first round of the very last box did the job, and the tree fell the way I intended!

    Shooting things is fun!

That's funny Mike! I shot that red squirrel in Ashland, ME. My buddy was having the same issue that day and shot the head off of one. He brought it back to the truck, tied it to some paracord and dangled it from the inside tailgate window of our other buddies truck cap. We waited off the tote road for him to return, he was some pissed when that thing came flying out at him.

Took this newby fellow on his first deer drive. Had a horseshoe in him, one deer at one place, and piled up three at another, an one at another. He ran out of shells, and was looking for some. I asked him what size buckshot he wanted, since I had an ammo can full of various loads. He said #2, well they don't make a #2 12ga buck. Turned out he was using 3inch #2 birdshot, alls I can say is it worked.

Somebody was trapping out in the middle of nowhere in this cedar swamp and had caught a coon. One of the fellows shot it in the head with a 22. We took some survey tape used for marking blood trails, stood him up, and tied his paws to the cedar and blind folded him and put a cigarette in his mouth. Always wondered what that trapper thought.

A coyote with a 380acp belly gun. Emptied the 5 shot magazine and it kept on running. My dad came walking up the trail about an hour later and said he passed a dead coyote. Lucky shot, unlucky coyote.
