Hello Riflemen: I just about have decided to put a sling on my 1895 45/70. Mine is pistol grip, 22" barrel rifle. Where do you suggest I place the rear strap stud? I want the strap for carrying the rifle hands free not for shooting. Any details and/or pictures will be appreciated. thanks, BestLever

The stud on my rifle is located about 1 and a quarter inches to the rear of the Marlin Bullseye tardemark.
ALL THE WAY!!!
Ditto, on my 444, which came with the swivel studs installed, so I installed the studs on my 1895 in the same location, mostly to maintain harmony in the gun rack...but they do both carry very well...Originally Posted by Skippy1

BestLever,
The rear stud is usually mounted 2 inches measured from the butt plate. This should put it an inch or so from the Marlin Bullseye.
Many folks make the mistake and drill through the Marlin trademark bullseye and screw in their stud here. In doing so the plastic will pull out of the stock and you can have a gun landing on the ground :!:
Uncle Mikes makes a decent setup found at your local Wally World.
