I've been living in England for the past few years because of my job. As yo9u all know, they are very anti-gun over here. Anyway, I always make it back home to Michigan for hunting season, but I'm running low on the reloads I usually feed my Guide Gun. As it's too much trouble to get at my reloading equipment which has been stored, I'm looking for a good round to replace my normal deer load which gave me approx. 2000 fps with a 300 gr. hollow point (Rem). I've gotten used to deer being knocked over like bowling pins. Whqat would be a reasonable replacement factory load until I live Stateside again? Any help would be appreciated!
Conley 45-70 Marlin 300 grain HP.
The new Hornady Leverevolution 45/70 is very accurate out of my Marlin 1895SS. I have not used it on live game yet, but I have to think it will do at least as well as the Remington and Winchester factory stuff.
Before I started reloading, I had very good results with Federal's 300 gr HP.
..ever'chuck hunt with a soft-cast 405gr WNFP?
try it...you'll like it!!
Thanks for your replies - very much appreciated!! Does anyone have any experience with the PMC 350 gr. load?
The ORIGINAL .45-70 sledgehammer:
Capebuff - he's looking to shoot whitetails, not charging rhino!
I wonder how many whitetail deer a guy could shoot through with a Garrett hardcast or one of those heavy-duty Punch bullets? I think very highly of Garrett's cartridges, if a guy is hunting something that requires a seriously stout blow.
Well, Guy, he said he wanted it to be a Boom-Plop ! ! ! !
There has been some question as to the availability of the PMC 45-70HA ammo. The sources I have seen in the past no longer list it as available. While it may be available in the future, the unreliability of stock for that product would make me shy away from it.
Buffalo Bore has some good ammo, a new 300gr load, expensive tho..
Cabela's sells it also.
