    Shooting Bench

I decided to build a low cost shooting bench in my backyard. I am fortunate enough to have space for a 50 yard target, with no potential hazards for well over 1,000 feet. My yard slopes up and has heavy trees for over 500 feet.

Here is the plan and some photos: http://www.horstguns.com/services/shooting-bench. I originally found the concept here: How to make a shooting bench for right and lefthand shooters- | KSDucks.com

To save some money, I used 4x4s in lieu of 4x6s. And my seat supports are a little different, as I used two 2x6s with cut notches. The total cost for materials was about $80.

My 14 year old daughter helped me build this bench and we broke it in with about 200 rounds of .22LR, shooting my old J. C. Higgins and a few with the new 336W.

    Below are some photos:

By only installing a couple of screws in each leg, it is easier to level it up front-to-back and side-to-side.

Once it is leveled up, I added more screws and the interior intermediate pieces.

Since the seat boards cantilever over a few inches, I ripped a piece of 5/4 board and screwed it tight.

The only drawback to building this bench is the extra cost for all that ammo!

Now I will invest in a shooting rest.

    Happy bench building!

    Ed

Well done! One suggestion...........you might want to think about enclosing as much of the underside as possible, or filling the spaces with aerosol foam. Wasps and other nasty little flying critters love to build nests in places like that, and they often get cranky over the sound of gunfire so close to their living quarters. I found that out the hard way.

Gotta love pictures of kids shooting!

    Nice job!!
I would like to have a bench that was more permanent like yours .
But with weather conditions up here and our dogs running around .
I found out that a bench that I can move around works better for me
Next place we get will have a designated shooting range !
And like PJ said about the under side of your bench,,
A bunch of grumpy wasp's can rune your day ,
Even when they attach themselves to a door frame above your shooting bench.

Do tell! Always like a good wasp/hornet story!

These are great plans! We'll have to make a few at MSC.
