A neighbood treat and easy DIY project

Here is a picture of a "Book Barn" I built. It's not really the craftmanship or the awesome wood working skills I am trying to show case here. (I am Ok as a rough carpenter, not real good on nice neat tidy finnish work) I got this idea from a golf buddy of mine, who in turn got it from someone else, so no credit on my part, just thought I would pass this on. The idea is too build (or buy) something and put it out by your driveway and put some of your old books in it. The neighborhood walkers will check out the selection and take one or two. Sometimes they will leave one, and then it starts growing into a book exchange. If you live in a rural area, it might not work so good, or it might, depending on how a big a sign you had. The whole idea is just to share books, occasionally we strike up a neighborly conversation. Its all good.
So, I have large selection of books, plus, I kept all or most of my son's books as he was growing up, and I bought a few coloring books so I would have something for all age groups. So far, the kids are the most excited and are always coming back to see what is new. We live in a neighbor with lots of dog walkers and just walkers, it is doing good business so far and seems to be popular.
The materials were just scrap cedar I had left over from another project, the design was kind of limited by my skills and the materials I had. Just thought I would share the idea with everyone.

That's an awesome idea - sent this to my wife so she'll nag me to do the same. We're big book-lovers. Just as an aside many charitable organizations are always on the lookout for books to place in Dr's offices and treatment facilities such as hospitals, oncology clinics and such.

Not sure if anyone noticed but I have a Louie L'amore stashed in there, nice one in hard back cover. It is the first of many, I plan to give away. My secret global plan is to get 1 millon new readers and have them all shooting lever actions. Today the nieghborhood, tomorrow the United Nations!
