    Fitting a shotgun stock to a Side-by-side

Hope this is OK to post as it's something I spent a while doing and it does look pretty.

First I let in the trigger guard --

And rough shaped the wrist of the gun-

Then it was onto the top strap which was rough-cut first

And then the strap set in-

Then it was getting the top strap and trigger guard to mate up and the wood-to-metal fitting as accurately as possible-

And then fitted a recoil pad-

Then I fitted the trigger guard and started to finish the stock with linseed oil and Alkanet root

    And the final finish-

Took @ three weeks with th sanding and finishing, but it was worth the effort. (I must admit I had to take the stock to a gunsmith to get the chequering done though)

Thanks gents. I have made a few rifle stocks but this was the first shotgun.
I must admit I had a lot of guidance from other people on the net, who were able to tell me how to set things up ready to remove material.

I am trying to import a ready-made rifle stock from The States but it really is a trial due to certain criteria. Boyds won't ship over $100 (and the stock I want is $119) and Richards Microfit don't have an online ordering system so I am going to have to phone them with my order.....and I'm a real clutz on the phone.

Did try to order a laminated stock over here...............200+25 shipping. That's $356 for a laminated stock, and I have been told that they are imported Richards Microfit stocks..which are $79 for the stock I want and $49 shipping. That's $128, almost one third the cost over here.

I did try to buy an American Walnut blank from a local timber merchant.......200 ($317)

Did someone say we were all in some sort of recession
