Hello,
Today I took down my born in '59 336 to remove the wood for refinish. It appears that a previous owner had refinished the wood without removing it from the rifle which caused some issue during disassembly (finish over screws). On reassembly I experienced issues with getting the barrel band screws aligned. Is there any tricks to this?
Thanks

It can be trying and make you cuss, sometimes the holes wont lineup, just have to have patience and try try try, or make small mods to get it in... Just make sure everything is as it should be before forcing it too much...

So I am figuring it is the back one holding the fore arm on. Most often you wind up filing the wood under the band to get it to fit and line up. This in itself does actually help your rifles accuracy because it relieves stress. I've had to do this on many Marlins also enlarging the holes under the band in the wood is sometimes necessary. Not often but I've enlarged the notches in the bbl and the mag tube.
