Hey guys,John Reno here,new member...kinda,with a question.Did Marlin ever make the 1894 Cowboy with a 24" barrel in .44 Special only?
Thanks in advance for the help,
John Reno
no, why would you want 44 special only when the 44 mag version will shoot both?![]()

maybe he remembers the 38 special only CB they used to make.

Marlin made a 1894 cowboy competition that was 38 special only, but they did not make a cowboy competition in 44 special only. I think they only made the cowboy competition in 38 special and 45 long colt.
I think all the 44 cal 1894s were all in 44 mag, well besides the 44-40 cowboys they made for a short while.

In 2005, Marlin made a special run of 100 1894 Cowboy's with 24" octagon barrels in 44 Special for the distributor TALO. They'll have a special etched stock and the bolt will be inscribed in gold with "Marlin 1894 Cowboy Limited". As a special run it was never in Marlin's catalogue.
That's all the info I have on any 1894s in 44 Special other than the standard 1894 in 44 Magnum.

What matters is marksmanship, shot selection, and bullet construction (mass, diameter and expansion behavior). These are things that don't tend to be found in ballistics tables
357 Magnum For when you just absolutely, positively have to shoot something.

Well there you go. You just never know because Marlin makes these limited runs that aren't documented. It's like the Model 30AS that Marlin produced in 1992 that was camoflauged. We need a reference that picks up where Brophy leaves off

I've got a set of notes that I call the Marlin 101 file that I started to keep it all straight for me when looking at Marlins. It's a continual work in progress, mostly about the modern era 1894s, but quite a bit of info on other Marlin centerfire leverguns as well. The one that I gave to the staff to post here at Marlin Owners Reference Section a few years back is getting a bit dated. Guess I need to send the latest version to GJ so he can update the reference section. Every time that I think I'm caught up on it, something new pops up.
