I saw that! She's a beaut, no doubt about that, I don't see the serial number on the side so I wonder what year it is. I see bought in OCT.2002 but that doesn't necessarily mean YOM. I'm perplexed by the lack of input about these rifles, one would think there would be all kinds of folks willing to crow about their 45/70 Cowboys. Seems the GG are the more popular rifle to go to. Was the Serial number on the bottom tang on the older models or the top? Mr fixit

I no longer have a 45-70 Cowboy and wish I never got rid of it. Georgeky I hope you are having fun with it!I really liked it cause it handled very nicely and balanced very nicely too. I only ever shot Rem 405grn factory loads. Well I did try some "Hot" hand loads that I had when I owned a 1895S and these would pound the crap out of me. I had a Williams receiver sight on my Cowboy and with the 405's I could keep a good 2" or less at 100 yards. I plan on in the future to have me another one if I don't find an original Model 1895 in 45-70 first. Actually I was drooling over a new one this past weekend and the price tag had $685.00 on it. It was hard to put that back down. I would say get one. It actually would be a good all around big game rifle and use factory 405's cause they do less damage than what you would think. The entrance wound and exit wounds are pretty much the same. They just punch straight through. Just get one and shoot it. You will love it and don't ever sell it. I am really inching for one now but I need to finish my Model 93 before I can get something else.
Summery: If you find one in really good shape for $6-700.00 "BUY IT" and Enjoy it!![]()

Got my eye on one, should call the gun shop and see if they still have the one they had last month. Would like to find a really nice grained one made in 2010 with a good fit, even if I don't particularly like the new mar shield finish, it would do good to commemorate the birth of my brand new grand daughter yesterday, she makes number 10 and probably the last unless there is devine intervention.Mom and baby are doing fine.

Her name is Elle and that would be a great name for a new 45/70 CB!! The search becomes a bit more intense! Mr fixit

Congratulation on the birth of your grand daughter! It is good to hear that both Mom and baby are doing fine. Elle would make a real good name.
