For quite some time now I've wanted a lever gun in 45 colt. I seen a used Henry Big Boy at a local store in 45 colt and was curious as to the strength of this gun with a brass receiver. Anybody have one of these or know someone that does? Do you like it?

Check to see if it is advertised with a brass receiver or a brasslite receiver. The brasslite is brass plated aluminum alloy. If it really is brass I wouldn't hesitate since it is a tried and true design for pistol cartridges. If it's brasslite it will be just as strong or stronger but the plating can come off and leave a real mess.

From what I have heard...and I don't own one...They are a very rugged rifle and smooth as butter.

Nope...not a Vols fan.
Thanks for the replies guys. I was over on Paco Kelley's Levergun forum and read quite a long discussion on the gun. After reading all of the ins and outs on the gun I think I would prefer a Marlin or Winchester. I already have both in various calibers and really don't care for the brass look on the receiver of the Henry.![]()
