300 Blackout
I enjoy the AR platform, after Nam didn't have an intrest but now, I have 2 and am enjoying them both. I am considering a 300 Blackout upper for hunting. Just gonna add a scope and work up some loads.

Have you looked into the 6.5 grendal? Surpasses 308 for long range and still can use the AR-15 platform.

The 300blk can do the work out to 30-30 and AK ranges with far greater accuracy. Be sure to use bullets designed to work in its envelope. But seriously, why not use your 5.56 in S.Texas? Using Hornady TAP-FPD or other self defence round I know you will find it plenty for your deer. It works great on Missouri white tails. .

The 300 black out comes into its own if you plan to put a can on it...
