i was looking at a Savage arms axis bolt rifle in .308 today for $300. was thinking about asking the guy if he'd be willing to trade. i have a marlin 30as made in '87, very well kept and clean with about 30 core lokt rounds and a 30 dollar scope. i had no idea if id look stupid for asking so i thought id post this and see what others had to say.
it would be fair in this part of the country if his has a scope
You never know--depends on his inventory--if he's heavy on bolt action and low on levers he may jump at it. All he can say is no--what do you have to lose ?

I wouldn't trade my '89 30AS, even though I gave $200 for it.

The way prices on 30-30 have went up, you might get some cash back.
The Savage Axis series are pretty inexpensive rifles. Buds has em for $280 shipped. I wouldn't trade a nice 336 for one unless the other guy coughed up some boot.

thanks for all of your input. i decided to just keep the marlin, buy the axis, and put the scope from my marlin on the axis. i feel like id like the 30-30 with iron sights better anyway.
JMHO be that was a good move!
