    Re: Black talon pictures?

The current SXT bullets are pretty darn near the same bullet as the famed Black Talon. I don't have any pics to prove it, but I have examined them.

I have 2 boxes of 9mm Black Talons left...thought I'd hang on to those for possible collectibles. (its not hard to keep them, I don't own a 9mm these days)

the SXT is a great controlled expansion round that I would trust any day of the week.

Agreed, but I have more faith in them when shooting them out of a barrel of at least four inches, and five is better. Out of my 3.5" Bersa expansion was less than stellar. These were shot out of a Glock 21.

And yes, the SXT is basically the Black Talon resurrected, without the scary name and black oxide coating.

The BT round was only on the market for a couple years before it was pulled due to media hysteria, but it seems like there's a fair amount of it around in various police armories and civilian stashes. It was another victim of the Stockton Hysteria, the yellow journalism that followed the Stockton, California school shooting in 1989. (Google "Patrick Purdy" for more on that). Media pundits falsely claimed the Black Talon's "Lubalox" coating was actually Teflon, making it an evil "Cop-Killer Bullet". That was complete BS, but before Winchester/Olin could suitably refute it, the damage was already done. Then some doctor opined that the pointy petals on expanded BT bullets put surgeons at increased risk of getting lacerated and poisoned by tainted blood, even though there is no evidence that EVER happened. Kind of like the whole "Cop-Killer Bullet" thing...........they were banned, but NO cop (at that time) had ever been killed by one. After all, it's not what something actually does, it's what it MIGHT do that scares the bejeezus out of the sheeple.

Personally, I always thought the Eldorado "Starfire" bullet was a lot scarier-looking than the Black Talon, but no media wizard ever declared war on PMC, so it's still around, and perfectly legal.

M700 takes some pretty danged good pictures, doesn't he?

Yes, I remember then senator Patrick Monahan parading around a heavily doctored BT bullet, calling it a buzz-saw that was maiming as many doctors as it was killing those misunderstood gangbangers.

Not the Rangers, but the SXT's are the current version of what used to be the Black Talon. See my post above.
