    Quick Detach Scope Options

    Howdy folks,

I'm new here and am now the proud owner of a NIB 1895GBL. It's my first lever gun, and, so far, I love it. I have a couple questions though. I'm sorry if these questions have already been asked, but my searches didn't yield the information I'm looking for.

I would love to mount a scope on this gun with quick detach mounts so that I can use open sights when I want. The problem is, I really love the stock sights that the gun comes with, but it looks like they are too low to be useable when a scope base is attached to the receiver.

Does anyone know if it's possible to use the standard open sights when a scope base is attached?

    Thanks!

You should be able to get away with it. Mine works for me. I have a Leupold base and rings, the rings have a quick release built in them.

I've got all of my scopes set up in Leupold QRW rings. I love them.

There's Williams Ace in the Hole which is an aperture sight mounted on an integral picatinny rail - perfect for quick release rings. It's on my Santa list with Leupold rings.

PS: I have the Weaver see-thru rings that in theory allow you to use your iron sights with teh scope still attached. I hate 'em because it "shrouds" teh sights.

Talley makes a real good quick detatchable mount
However complicated the issues becomes it comes down to one simple question. Which is more important to you Life or Liberty? I've made my decision long ago.

As Oberhaz showed in his picture, a Weaver (or Leupold, Weaver-type) 1 piece or 2 piece base is made so that it is much lower in the center than at the sides (edges) and allows for easy iron use when the rings & scope are removed. My vote is for that type of base & ring combo, also shown here on my 1895G and 1895M.

I really like those ACE IN THE HOLE setups. Looks like it would be perfect for my take down 10/22

I've got the same base as Oberhaz and 336ER on another rifle and it works just fine with iron sights when the scope is removed.

I use the Warne 1- piece base with Leupold QRW rings on several Marlins and it works great with the scope off. Plus the scope sits about 1/8" lower than if using the Leupold or Weaver bases.
