OK, now that I have my RCBS 45-70 dies (new style w/1/2" stems for seater and expander)....will the RCBS seating stem for their cast sillouette bullet work with the Hornaday 325gr FTX spitzer bullet, or is there someone out there making seating stems for this profile?
Is the seating stem, the part that makes contact with the bullet nose,
flat or cone shape to fit a pointy bullet?
Yep.... the RCBS seating stem is for round/flat nose bullets....the FTX is a spitzer (pointed) design
You could try it, just watch for damage to the bullet nose, and that the COL remains consistent.
Another thing is, the bullet not starting straight into the case with the flat stem.
So, might be best to get another stem from RCBS.
The Hornady dies work great for the FTX.

Well, I've tried using the round nose seating stem....seemed to work OK, no bullet damage, but... the loaded cartridge won't feed properly....too long, so I guess I'll be trimming some cases specifically for these bullets.
Hornady brass is shorter than normal 45/70 brass, My father calls Hornady brass 45/69 brass . I have short Hornady Flex tips from normal brass but I have to feed them 1 at a time.Well, I've tried using the round nose seating stem....seemed to work OK, no bullet damage, but... the loaded cartridge won't feed properly....too long, so I guess I'll be trimming some cases specifically for these bullets.

Sounds like you'll have to go buy a few boxes of Hornady ammo & blast away with it so you can get some brass to reload.
