    1895 ABL

Just picked up my first .45/70 Govt. gun in the guise of an 1895 ABL. Just a beautiful gun! The bluing and the dark grey laminate stock go great together.

Is there any work that should be done or parts that are easier/better to replace before shooting or initial break in time?

Also, what are your favorite accessories or replacement sights for the gun? Just wanting to consider the possibilities

It's a matter of personal preference but I replaced the standard floppy trigger and two-piece ejector with those from Wild West (the WW trigger is noticeably superior - I went ahead and got the ejector to combine shipping and to save Marlin's as a backup). It was mentioned in a previous thread that MidwayUSA is running a sale on these.

You should be fine but if you want to tinker some, the Wild West Happy trigger cant be beat, it is a great improvement over the factory trigger. While you are ordering this you might as well get the metal follower and the Bear Proof ejector. None of this is necessary but it is fun doing this stuff.

    Congratulations on you new rifle!!!!

    I like that combination!

I was skeptical about the WWG trigger being worth the price.. After hearing all the hype about it I had to find out for myself.. Better than expected!!!!!

There's a sticky in the gunsmith section on how to improve your stock trigger yourself as well.

    Now.... How about some PICS?!?!?!?!

This is what I did to my Guide Gun.....so I guess this is what I like
DRC big loop lever, XS sights, XS scout mount, Leupold scout scope w/Leupold QRW rings. Made a stainless safety replacement and added the saddle ring.

Now let's see yours even if it is stock for the time being.

Ok - Wish I could take better pics but here she is:

    Marlin 1895 ABL

Modern Classics in the .45 Caliber (and big things really do come in small packages )

Thanks to all so far for the ideas. Keep 'em coming! I like the XS Scout Mount - have also seen different type or models of the XS rail. Any others to consider?

The WWG parts are tempting. Are they difficult to install?
