Old Goat Keeper need not worry....just because the legal sale took place in December 2007 doesn't by itself mean much. The factory in North Haven, CT near where I live (the original factory) did not cease production until mid-summer 2010. In fact, another member who was an engineer there confirmed the last gun rolled off their production line at 4:00 p.m. on August 4th, 2010...or thereabouts.
I just bought a 2009 336SS that is 100% North Haven made and as far as I'm concerned as good as anything else that came out of that factory prior to the legal Remington sale.
It's the folks that buy the NEXT round of guns out of the Ileon factory in North Carolina that will have to worry. But Old Goat Keeper should be in good shape. He's got a Marlin-Marlin as far as I'm concerned....only the lawyers would see it differently.
I think those Marlins with North Haven on the barrel are going to be worth more once Remington/ Big Corporate Raider gets through screwing things up.. Bittersweet.. far more bitter than sweet.
I know this is a four year old thread I am posting to. But I am trying to compile the serial number's after the sale of Marlin to Cerberus (Post Remlin). I have up to 2011. But nothing more recent. Anyone know what the Remlin serial numbering convention will be or is now for Marlin's ?
Thanks,
Rob
MARLIN SERIAL NUMBER PREFIXES - DATE OF MANUFACTURE
B
1941
–
No commercial manufacture due to WWII production / retooling from sometime in 1941/42 until 1945
I want to thank you all for the information. I have been concerned about my Birthday present when I turned the big 60... Ahahahah thank you. I would still purchase a Marlin/Remington rifle made today.
Your right Tom, Remington's bean counters took control in Jan 2008, and from after Dec 2007, you are only going to be able to get a probably mucked up replica of a fine (now gone) American classic rifle (no matter what the barrel markings are). IMHO of course.
