If I did... I'd just make sure to get a threaded end cap, so when the suppressor was removed, I could protect the threads, and the rifle would look normal.

Ya, I think it would be just fine. You get to hunt with your JM Marlin, as you like, and not be subjected to muzzle blast.

It's not traditional, and I think that's what has some folks a bit upset, but it's your rifle, and you are free to modify it for your needs, and to your tastes.

Years ago there was a European fellow on this forum (Norway maybe?) who suppressed and scoped his .45/70 Marlin, primarily for wild boar hunting... It was pretty cool. I'd love to shoot it!

Now you've got me thinking about threading my ol' .30-30 Glenfield... Hmmm....

I only have 1 marlin a 336 30-30 this side of the pond we have to have a "Good Reason" for every Rifle we own. The Rifle is a 1989 CS my personal view is I would NOT cut a original JM Barrel, however I fail to see the difference in threading a barrel for a suppressor and shortening an original JM. If it were my call funds permitting I would, 1st choice buy and thread a Remlin. 2nd choice thread a replacement barrel and keep the original.

I do however have a number of suppressed Rifles .22rf x 2, .22Mag .22H. 22-250R, 22-250Ack .243, 308 & 9.3. And yes they are all working every day Rifles. My 22-250 Ackley has a Douglas match grade heavy Barrel in S/S with a silk mat finish so as not to reflect a spotlight at night, it has a thread protector made to match. You have to within inches to see the line between the 2 and that is looking real hard. Another thing I have not seen mentioned is the use of a neoprene sleeve for the suppressor. This cuts out the ringing noise some make when fired also then getting out of a truck should you tap it against something you do not alert the game, like when shooting foxes at night. By the way my .270 Mauser, 7x57 BSA and 300wm Sako de-lux are not suppressed as they are classic rifles that I do not wish to alter. I hope this gives a balanced view and why and yes my 336 is scoped it is also a working rifle.

Bubbakote a.k.a. Rustoleum textured matte black. A can will paint a half dozen rifles.
