    444S Jam

I could use some help trying to figure out why my 444S is jamming occasionally! First, I've only tried Hornady's 265 g FTX! The rifle was made in 1980! I've taken it apart, cleaned and buffed everything! The carrier was a little worn where the lever cam hits, but I don't think that's the problem! The cartridge comes halfway out the magazine, and gets stuck on the carrier. Lever in the down, full open position. I can pull the cartridge on to the carrier to alleviate the JAM, but this isn't right! I also cleaned the mag tube. Any ideas? Thanks!!!!

Well Buck9, the follower in the magazine tube has to be dimpled to use the FTX ammo. The dimple provides proper alignment of the cartridge. With out it, the cartridge can and will come out a little crooked thus causing a jam. If you don't replace the follower you can kinda cheat by loading a regular 444 round first then followed by the FTX rounds. This allows for proper alignment. Or just get a new follower, they are not expensive. Hope this helps!

Hey Buck. Check that your loading gate screw is tight.

If you buffed too much on the lever and follower, that will happen, If you have another marlin lever to try I would do that first, it does not take much to untime a Marlin!

IIRC the lever is open, the cartridge is not on the carrier but stuck just in front on a very slight bevel and the action is locked up! Is this whats happening?

Their are only two kinds of people, those who own a 444 and those who wish they owned one,
and yes folks, denial is bliss!
