I am pretty certain that Halwg has had good results on whitetail with this bullet, 46.5g of H4198.

Also, It seems like Maudite took a good blackbear this year with it as well. They'll be along shortly to confirm or deny, but I'm pretty sure about this.

I like the 270DeepCurl, or HotCore at 46.5g H4198 myself. Shoots the same as 47g H4198 with 265 Hornady FP Interlock. I'd guess they're running about 2250 FPS, but I don't have a clock.

My wife and I have shot many deer with the Speers 270gr Gold Dot out of our 44Mag Marlins and the 444, we run them around 1600fps in the 44Mag and 2100fps in the 444, always a pass through, and dead deer, with either. You may also what to try the Speer 240gr Gold Dot.

I do believe that you are looking for more info on the Marlin 1894 44mag.

Some of the better bullets we have found in the Marlin 1894 44Mag was a Beartooth 250WNGC .432 or the Ranch Dog 265LFNGC .432/.433 for the best accuracy we ran the Beartooth around 1870fps and the Ranch Dog at 1830fps

As a side note, the Speer 270gr Gold Dot has been one of the most accurate bullets in 4 out of 5 of our 444's, the 1-15 twist Cowboy has not shot any jacketed bullets yet!

Their are only two kinds of people, those who own a 444 and those who wish they owned one,
and yes folks, denial is bliss!

thank you for the replies.....i'm a wondering if the bullet will upset on medium game at 1600-1300fps......buffalo bores cartridges have alot more recoil than the rest....are they going as fast as they say?.....regards....bearit...

For what it's worth, I used an 1894 shooting 270gr Gold Dots on a hog hunt a few years ago. Not chronied, but I figured at least 1550 FPS out of the carbine. Lucked(?) into a very large hog and it took several shots to finally complete the deed. The first shot was to the neck, about 4" behind the ear and the second shot was directly to the center of the shoulder (and thick shield) as he was getting back up after shot #1. Three more shots, the last to the neck at about 10' finally did him in. That being said, the two recovered bullets; numbers 1 & 2 fired, showed excellent expansion, but simply did not have the steam to fully penetrate the very thick shield and do him in. #1 was found against his vertebra, but did not break his neck. #2 was found just under the shield against the shoulder bone (did not break it). Here's a couple pictures of those bullets. I felt the recovered bullets showed they would do very very well on smaller hogs and deer-sized game at the same velocities. Of course, others may think otherwise.

    Here's the bullet pics:

336ER.....thanks for the on game blow by blow....i've got a few boxes of buffalo bore's 270gr. loads and they say they do 1800fps. from a 18.5" barrel...do you think things would have gone differently on that boar at those speeds? how far away was he on the first two shots?.....bearit.....

I'm afraid I would not know what an additional 200 FPS might have done, but I'd bet lots'a $$$ that 500 FPS more from a .444 would have saved me 4 shells....lol. He was right around 45 yards when I first shot and no one could have been more surprised than I was about what transpired after that. I don't own the 1894 any more (got a .375 to replace it) but it was a really nice rifle and I would have used those exact loads on any deer hunting I felt the rifle suited for range-wise. No doubt in my mind they will penetrate very well at nearly any angle. Those BB loads could only be more of a good thing. The bullets certainly looked the part when recovered!
