Went to the range w/the 444s and the new 4.5" SBH 44 yeterday and had a ball.

The SBH loads were 10 gr of Unique w/some commercial 240 gr BB bullets. Accurate and easy recoil. Also tried some 20 year old 320 gr J D Jones cast loads w/21.2 (I think) gr 296 and the recoil was "noticable".

The 444 I tried some 240 gr Remington factory loads w/good results and then 8 rounds of the Beartooth 290/.432 w/52 gr 335. NICE recoil. So nice in fact that I wrecked a Konus 1.5-5.5 scope. Crosshairs shifted about 40 degrees. Plus I now have a really great scar rat between the eyes. No more scopes.

I am looking at receiver sites, in particular the Skinner. Any advice/comments?

    seabreeze,
Not to be a Butthead, you need to Always "Work UP" your loads, It may save you some healing time. Plus you get to find which loads are the most accurate.......................................... ............Marko

    Don,

Tim Skinner supports our site and makes a great product. If you do not need a scope try Tim out. He makes it user friendly and will custom make front sights for you and aperatures also...I think.

Ouch, that’s going to leave a mark  . Having been there and done that, my 444 XLR wears its Burris 2x7 Handgun scope in a XS Scout Mount.

I’m using the Skinner Peep's on my 444 and 1895CB, they are a fine set-up. Like VTDW said, talk to Tim and he’ll build it for you. I had him provide .050-.060” apertures for target shooting and a tall front blade for the CB.

You will need a taller front sight than the factory bead.

Guess I forgot about the work up part. Actually I worked up to 53 gr 335 and the best load was the 52 gr, so that is what I am using. Also looking for a load w/the same boolit at around 1800 fps. Any suggestions?

I don't use 335 so I have no idea, in our 44mags we run the BT290 at around 1575fps, and it works great on deer................................Marko

OK it's early Tuesday after a 3 day weekend, meaning I need to be retrained for work and am a little slow to catch on. Why do I need a taller front sight w/cast boolits?

The peep sight is taller than the original rear sight. This is common and has nothing really to do with the cast boolits.
