    Hornady 265 gr bullet

How would the Hornady 265 gr. FP do on an elk hunt? At the same velocity as the Light Magnum factory load. I have taken deer with this load but wondered about the round on an elk. Thanks

My go to boolit is "Ranchdog" 300gr HCGC...but many here will swear by that bullet/load to be the perfect elk medicine!

They will work just fine, for a Condom bullet! They are a good, accurate bullet in the 444, have no fear about using them on Elk size animals! I would go with the Swift 280gr, a true "premium" bullet for the 444. I like this bullet, very accurate and it will work when other bullets fail! Elk are tough, the country they live in is tougher, sometimes when you can't get enough air in your lungs, and you have to take a shot, your shot placement isn't perfect, then and there is were the "Premium" bullet shines! Even at $1.00 a bullet, it's still the cheapest part of your hunt, but offers more bang for your Buck!

I was shocked to discover that one of my local gun shops had BOXES of Hornady 265gr FP "Light Magnum" rounds in stock. While the price isn't quite as nice as I'd like, I may have to work on correcting their inventory to gain some cases until I can start in on reloading.

The light magnum 444 has a good reputation for accuracy and performance. I have been hoarding 3 1/2 boxes since I found some on closeout. Congrats on finding some. DP

Broadside one shot through the rib cage, nice 5x5 pass thru. Down with out taking a step. My hunting partners first elk. Hornady 265 standard factory load before the light magnums came out. Worked very well.

We just got another shipment of the 265 bullets in our store, total of 13 boxes now. Getting more hunting ammo in for the start of the season. DP
