About pistol grip to straight grip

Please correct me if I'm wrong. It looks like the 336 pistol grip trigger plate can be altered to straight by cutting/grinding/filing off the thicker rounded part on the bottom rear, because the top profile of the pistol grip plate is identical to the straight. And I don't have to bend the trigger plate. Posting to verify this so I could modify an extra curved trigger plate to straight. Then bend the curved lever to straight or just get a straight one.

Second, how different is the 35 plate and lever from the 30-30? Can I just swap or do I have to have a specific 35 lever for a 35 gun and vice versa? I do have a straight lever but from an 1895, but conflicting posts on whether this will work for both 35 or 30-30. If I can use it fine. If not, I'll have to get another one specific to the 336 caliber.

Have reviewed the gunsmith tips but it doesn't specifically say this.

    Thanks.

That can be done but its a lot easier to just swap parts with a donor gun. As for the lever, some folks will tell you that it won't work due to timing but I've had no problems whatsoever with my 35XLR conversion using both 30-30 and 45-70 straight levers.
Blessed are the flexible for they shall not be bent out of shape.

Personal preference. Some shoot better with a pistol grip. For me, straight works and feels better. The only pistol grips I have are on pistols. Even my SxS 12ga is a straight stock.

The parts swap is the easiest way to go. I decided to do that a few weeks ago, and ran into a problem before I got started, One of the rifles was older with the serial number on the trigger plate. The other was a 1968 with the serial number on the top tang. What I wanted to do would have given one rifle two serial numbers, and the other one would have had none. BAD!

The big boys tell us that recoil is easier to manage with a pistol grip. I never had a serious recoiling long gun with a straight stock. A straight stocked 12 ga. would top my experience in that department, jack
    Jack.

This I-pad knows what I want to say and how to spell better than I do. Sometimes I catch it's mistakes, sometimes I don't.

I've heard that too papabear. I should have mentioned that. Hornady 325FTX is pretty good recoil in my 1895CB on the bench but offhand it isn't bad. The straight stock SxS will make you want a beer or two after a 75-100 bird trap shoot.

Yes the 336 Trigger plate can be altered just by cutting, grinding, filing and sanding. It really isn't difficult and if you enjoy doing that sort of thing it can be a lot of fun. The lever can be straightened by heating and bending. Again, a fun project if you like that sort of stuff.

I did it to my old 336. Removed the excess material and bought a straight lever off ebay for really cheap, like $15, and it was for a big bore Marlin. Works perfect.
    Go ahead, you'll love it!

I've done a few...straight to PG and vise versa. I personaly like the straight look and feel. My T4 is now (and will remain a straight grip) my two 30-30's will remain PG. (only because thats the serial # location) BTW I have a PG 1895 big loop in the "64" 30-30, and it functions perfect.
