Have a WTB post for a 336SS but found a NIB with MR prefix SN (very low number). Haven't been able to find here in MO build dates for MR SNs. I'm presuming that some of the early 336SS builds after the Rem purchase came out of the Connecticut factory. Really would like to get a pre-Rem 336SS for the upcoming season but am only finding NIB, no older ones. Any help or direction to a post here appreciated. Thanks (better yet point me to a used 336SS for sale!!)
If it's an MR serial number, it was built after Remington took over. What I suspect we will find is that Remington is not going to date the guns by serial numbers. They use date codes for all of their other guns, and I would think they are going to use the same code system for the Marlins they built. I have the code system that I have used to date my other Remingtons, but it is for older guns, nothing for the new builds.

Hal, I think you answered my question. So when Remington took over North Haven, the MR prefix started then? I think I'd be ok with something made by the old Marlin crew after Rem took over for a while. But at the moment not interested in a NY rifle. In the end I may just have to be patient and use my '69 RC this season. Which will be fine.
