For a relatively new made Marlin, how do you tell if it was made by the old Marlin or the new Remington? ( *assume* either serial number and/or manufacturing markings etc. Looked for a sticky/Faq, didn't find it, so hopefully this isn't often asked question.
I purchased a Marlin 336c yesterday it has a serial number that starts with MR2006 stamped on the left side receiver and REP stamped on the barrel It also has New Haven Connecticut stamped on the barrel how do I tell when it was manufactured?
Does it really say NEW Haven on the barrel? Marlin moved out of the New Haven plant back in 1969. Didnt think Remington could use that. Maybe it says North Haven.
To date the Remington Made Marlins, your gonna have to get on Remingtons Website and look. They have there own way of dating thier guns.
If JM is stamped on the barrel just in from of the receiver the gun was made before 2010. If it is stamped REP then the gun was made after Remington took Marlin Over which was in 2010.
Enjoy the Journey
