    Sling swivel mounting

Hope someone can help me with some advice. I want to put a set of quick-detach sling swivels on my Marlin 30AW. The rear band has a stud with integral swivel. The swivel/stud turns in the band but does not seem to be threaded in. Is the stud supposed to be removable so I can put a QD stud in the band, or is it staked in? Do I have to replace the band with one that has a QD stud in it? Does such a thing exist? Any help appreciated.

    Re: Sling swivel mounting

Gee, not doing too well with my first post! Okay, give me a hint - does nobody know the answer to my question, or is the answer so obvious that it is beneath response? It's my first Marlin lever action, so I am not too familiar with what is available. I did find a band with stud on a couple of websites since I posted this, but there seems to be some debate about whether they need to be threaded by the installer. Throw me a bone somebody!

Your 30AS has a rear band? I thought the AS had a forend cap. Either way, the stud is permenantly mounted to the base. I'm not sure why you would want to reconfigure it to the band, as you can easily remedy the fixed sling loop by removing it, and drilling out the swivel to accept a quick detachable swivel.

Okay, no problem. Rather that put the unsightly barrel band on there, take a pair of pliers and remove the sling loop, and then carefully drill out the hole. Walla, then you will have a swivel stud that will take a quick detachable sling loop.
