They first came out with that stuff for .30 cals in the 1970's or 1980's as I recall.

Typically it's fast, but not too accurate. Might be worth a try, just for fun.

Re: remington 30/30 winchester accelerator ammo?

Accelerator rounds were offered in 30-06, .308 and 30-30, the idea being that you could use your deer rifle for varmints. As Guy mentioned, it's not horribly accurate. It apparently still sells, though I doubt the sales figures are very impressive.

Can it be shot from a Marlin 30-30? Sure! You can even buy the plastic sabots from www.eabco.com and make your own...........but before you get too excited, I'll tell you that the supplied load data is useless, the sabots suffer from serious quality-control problems, and the best accuracy I got was 1.5 inches at 50 yards. Getting the sabots to release the bullet the same distance from the muzzle never worked very well, and if your velocity is too low, bullets not only keyholed, but some never hit a 2X3-foot target.

Hopefully the factory version is more accurate and consistent, but then, it wouldn't take much. I consider them a novelty, and little more. :P

I don't typically get too excited about non-traditional ammo but I had hoped I could get excited about this. Sigh... Haha

Re: remington 30/30 winchester accelerator ammo?

I was foolish enough to pick up about 600 of them sabots along with a Lee flareing die set. Since then I found another use for my 55gr .224 boolits.....a used Remington 700 in .222 Rem Mag!! The flareing die came in handy for flareing 30 WCF cases for 30cal lead balls for plinking loads. So the order wasn't a total loss.
P.S. anybody here want to take the sabots off my hands? I didn't think so.
