    I picked up the rifle tonight. I wish the seller had disclosed that it has a badly cracked butt stock. There is no other damage so I don't think it was caused by shipping damage. It's cracked at the tang, like ever other cracked Marlin stock I've seen.

    The good news is that I think it can be glued and the crack will barely be noticeable.

    Bump, update on the Western Field/Marlin 30-30.

    Anyone else picked up one of these in the last couple of years?

    I fixed the cracked stock on mine, but it has a petrified recoil pad on it that needs to be replaced. I have some odds and ends Marlin lumber and have a stock with a Pachmayr pad from an 1895, and n end cap style fore arm that fits the 30-30 barrel profile. I'm going to try mounting these on the old Western Field and give it a bit of a facelift. This gun came with walnut stocks but they are very plain and finished with a very dark stain of some kind.

    I picked one up. Actually, I have the gun that started this thread. Its been through 4 owners here. It wont have another. If I have any say in the matter, it will stay with me and hopefully go to a family member after Im gone.
