    Lyman 66 and Factory sights

I hope to be acquiring a Texan 20 inch barrel. I have a old steel Lyman 66 receiver sight to attach to it. Is it possible to keep the original rear sight on the barrel and still use the Lyman?

You'll just have to mount the Lyman and look thru it and see if the stock sight obstructs your view of the front. If it does just knock out the rear and put in a blank(4.99 from Brownells) and you're done. About a 5 minute job.

Yes, in fact you can more or less sight in your peep using the present sights. After you can lower the rear to get a better sight picture. I would use the advice given earlier and get a blank.

Here is a picture of a 1974 Texan. Does it have the folding rear sight? I know a blank is possible but I would be afraid if something happened to the peep, that then I would have no rear sight. Any thoughts on that?

That is the folding rear. It may fold down far enough to be out of the way.

Yes, looks like a folding leaf. I wouldn't worry too much about something happening to the peep sight, they're well made and very sturdy when mounted.

I use the rear and the peep at the same time makes for a very fast sight picture at a set range and I fold down the rear sight for longer shots

Replace the rear with a folding leaf, sight it in then put the peep on it.

Yes I finally won one of these Texans. I was just 20 years old when it was made!!!

Thanks for everyone's advice on the sights.
