Would the 200 FTX bullet work ? If not what would you use?

This was a good yarn and could be of assistance to you Alaska moose with .35 Remington I'm waiting for my mate to come out of the desert as he has probably shot a camel with his 35 by now. They are a big lump of animal too. Used mine a bit and would hunt everything here in Aus with it even water Buff with the right bullet.

Sorry forgot! I'd use a 250 grn hard cast bullet with a big meplat.

The Hornady would be my only choice, but a 30-06 would be better

I've shot a bunch of game with the 35 and in my experience, with today's ammo choices, the 30-30 is better all around.

Pop, how far away will the elk likely be? As long as the distance is reasonable, it will be fine.

I have hunted elk since I was old enough to hunt and the 35 Remington is plenty of gun for the job. First off you need to know what your longest range is going to be and then go from there. Personally I like the larger bullets for elk which can be a very tough animal. If your only hunting in the timber the 35 would be a very good choice.

I would think it be very effective if it were within 100yds with proper shot placement

A 32Wspl will work at 150 yards with a cast bullet. You should be good "at least" that far, as long as the shots can be placed.

    Good luck on your quest.

The 35 Remington is "enough" for elk provided the hunter has "enough" resolve to only take the shot when conditions are right.
