    Question concerning a Marlin 30AW.

    I have a question:

Can anyone shead some lite on the Marlin Model 30AW. I find no mention of this model in THE BOOK.

The barrel is a 20" carbine barrel. It has dove tails cut for both front and rear sights. It takes a full length magazine tube.

It has on the left side.

THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NORTH HAVEN, CT. U.S.A.
    Mod. 30AW MICRO-GROVEBARREL CAL. 30/30 WIN.

It has the WARNING label on the right side of the barrel.

Can anyone tell me anything concerning the specs. on this Model gun.

Was it a straight or pistol grip gun?

    Thanks,

    djh

    Question concerning a Marlin 30AW.

    I think they were all pistol grip models (30, 30A, 30AS, 30AW).

    Question concerning a Marlin 30AW.

Well, I decided to call Marlin to see if I could get some information on the Model 30AW.

Turns out it was the same gun as the 30AS except they replaced the S with a W because it was made only for Walmart duing the years 1984-1988.

It was known previously as the Glenfield 30AS but that designation was dropped in 1983 and in 1984 it then became the Marlin 30AS.

It was a pistol grip with full length magazine. It had Burch wood when it was a Glefield but when the designation changed to Marlin, the Walnut wood replaced the Burch. It came in 30-30 caliber only.

At least, this is the information I was able to get from Marlin.

I may try to build one up with my spare parts since I have the barrel.

Re: Question concerning a Marlin 30AW.

I just purchased a 30AW that's has the same lettering as the OP's 30AW and was curious as to it origins also. I was doing some research and I belong to another forum, INGunOwners.com

On that site was posted pictures of a 336W which is COMPLETELY identical to my 30AW. I've found the info on dating the firearm and as such it would make my rifle from 1993. Above was stated that they made the 30AW in the mid-late 80's. How can that be right if mine is from 1993? Maybe mine did come from a Walmart, but maybe not?

    Any thoughts?

Re: Question concerning a Marlin 30AW.

I think I got one of the last Glenfield 30A's. The serial number 17XXXX shows it to be a 1983 model. And my understanding has been that they dropped the Glenfield name after 1983. So who knows...I could have the last Glenfield ever made. Wouldn't that be a hoot!

Re: Question concerning a Marlin 30AW.

Got one it was my first Marlin. Nice gun, and I actually like the looks of it better than my other Walnut stocked Marlins. It is pistol grip, and Burch stock. I have a picture on my sight in my signature. I just did an article on slicking up the action.
