    RD 379-235 vs. PA coyote

My son Mike & I spent the morning on a mountain hunting deer but didn't see any. Nearing 8:30 AM I saw movement below me, watched intently and saw a coyote which would pass directly below me if he didn't change course. Since I was expecting him below and about 40 yds. away, he suddenly pops up just 25 yds. below with his front feet on a log while he checked the air for scent. I was shooting my Marlin 38-55 CB conversion offhand and put the Ranch Dog bullet just a bit to the left of center. At the shot he went backwards (downhill) and out of my sight. Dropping down to check it out I was really surprised to find it was a male in excellent condition, with a full coat. Most coyotes we see here have mange and are really ragged-looking specimens. So, at 70 yrs of age I have killed my first coyote! Later Mike skinned it and will save the hide.

Good shooting, that's one less coyote to hurt the fawn population next year , Lonnie.
Middle aged, middle class, blue collar white guy. I hunt, fish, eat meat, wear the skins of animals for clothes and burn fossil fuels for fun and profit. Everything is my fault and I am OK with that.

He looks really good.........................as a dead coyote with a rifle on top of him!
