i was in an academy store yesterday and spotted a new 308mx on the rack.the clerk let me look at it as well as himself, who was also a marlin nut
the barell was straight, stock fit was goodand looked really nice.a couple of things we noticed was ,the fore end was a little fat ,the stock was birch, and there were a few flaws in the checkering. another observation was the step above the reciever /barell was lower ,as in they took more metal off the top of the reciever,or tapped rhe reciever higher.
academys store policy would not allow them to remove the trigger lock to check the action ..
i also got a look at a windham(bushmaster) and he puts out a nice rifle.

your not going to learn how to do it until you put your hands on it

Unless something dramatic has changed, the 308 MX and 338 MX have walnut stocks, not birch. How did you determine that the stock was birch?

I didn't even know Academy carried the MX. Might be a regional thing.

How did you determine it was a new production rifle? Have they started making them again?
I was just online looking at Gander Mountain, and they have both the 308MX and the 308MXLR. I have a relative who works at the local store, and he called in and checked, and was told they are "MR" prefixed rifles. He said their brochure says the MX has a walnut stock. You never know, Remlin may have put some 336W wood on an MX though.

I seriously doubt that.

I just purchased my 308MXLR three weeks ago and so far I have had no problems with it I put 20 rounds the first weekend and 20 the next weekend. I had the place I bought it from install a scope also and I first took it to the range and put it on paper at 50 yards and were all close did a little adjusting on the scope and was dead center now the 100 yard was a little out of wack but that probably is just me. I am not sure when it was made how can I tellAlthough I know it is a Remlin because my ser # starts with a MR and ends wirh a B

Remington always used a specific date code. I don't know if the Marlins made by Remington are carrying on that tradition. Are there other markings on the barrel or receiver?
