Question About The Half Tube Magazine On The 308 MX???

On the 308 MX at the end of the magazine tube there is a cap that has a screw that threads into a dovetail nut on the barrel. How tight is this supposed to be

I found the one on my new 338 MXLR lose and my 308 MXLR was lose as well. I thought this setup was to allow the barrel to float somewhat allowing for better accuracy. If you tighten it down it appears as though is tight to the point that the barrel won't budge.

How tight is this suppose to be

THe mag tube screw and forearm cap screws were not tight on my mxlr either and seemed to loosen after shooting. Actually, I was not completely satisfied with the groups I was shooting untill after I tightened the screws. I did not crank them down, just past snug so they wouldn't come loose when shooting-after that the gun grouped fine.

You ight consider putting some blue Lok-Tite on these. This is what is used for scope bases. It will allow you to remove the screw if need be, but helps to keep it from coming loose from vibration.

I have 3 308 MX's an 1895 in 45-70 and a 338 MX. Some of the other rfiles were tight. My first 308 MXLR was real lose, took several turns to get it tight. This might explain why my groups opened up a little!!!
