Deer season starts tomorrow!!! DEAD DEER!!

Well tomorrow is the opener for Nebraska rifle deer season. Taking none other than the 308MX. Where I'm set up the sots could be out to about 500 yards or as close a few yards. I have taken 4 nice deer from 143 class to 175 class from this same spot and have killed all the deer within about 100 yards of each other, and the closest shot I have had was 150 yards. I had to cut down about 7 trees tonight for a better field of fire. I have a good 360 degrees field of fire, now all I need is to see a monster. I have not seen crap so far in my scouting, but I know there are big deer there and the only time it really counts to see them is during season with a rifle in your hands.......I'm in hopes

Here is my red neck deer blind. It works great I can park it any where.

Here is Tommy by the blind.

This view is where I have shot all the bucks from.

I have seen a lot of does and fawns on this bottom, but no monster bucks. Never have shot a deer down there, but you never know.

Much luck! Can't imagine hunting rifle during rut. Fraid they'd eliminate the deer population here. Its bad enough when ours starts in 2 weeks.

Gosh, If I came up to hunt, i'd tip that thing over.

Good luck on the hunting. I would love to have a setup like yours, but here in Washington it is illegal to shoot from a vehicle, parked or not, or to even have a loaded rifle on the vehicle.

I dont know about CT but in NH that would be illegal. You cant even lean a loaded rifle against a vehicle. Let alone build a clubhouse on one to hunt from.

    Good luck BM!

We can even have a loaded rifle in the vehicle but no shotgun. It is farm and ranch country and a lot of vermin get shot by farmers and ranchers.

This really isn't different than having a stand build up on stilts. Only difference is that after season I can dismantle it and drive away

We saw a lot of deer this morning. I passed on a 1/2 way nice 4x4 that was probably 130 class. Tommy wanted me to blast him. He kept saying "Dad, he's a nice buck, you should shoot him" We say quite a few forks and a lot of does probably 10-15 does. But no monsters. I'm pretty sure I got the 4x4 on film. He went right past one of the game camara's so I will have to check it tomorrow and see.

Gonna take a nap and head back out for the duration of the day. Don't figure it is worth watching Nebraska get it's six kicked by K-State. Dr.A might disagree though

Your blind looks like a lot of South Texas blinds! There are a lot of them down here that they call "top drives" or "Hy-Drives"...

Deer season starts tomorrow!!! DEAD DEER!!

Mine isn't quite that fancy ops: ops:

What a great day!! There is a reason you pass up shots in this country. I have not had any second thoughts about letting that 4x4 go this morning. Tonight I set my eyes on a true monster. Which I'll get to.

Tommy and I came back home and took a nap, I figured Nebraska was gonna get an a$$ whopping, and as it turns out handed K-State theirs Sorry Dr.A

We headed back out to the blind about 3pm the wind was still blowing 30-40 mph but the blind is solid so there is no problems there. At 4 pm we started see deer. Tommy saw the first deer which was a doe comming out of the grass heading towards the patch of timber to the west. We saw quite a few does and the time went by. About 5pm I saw several does across the bean field on the bottom just past the row of trees at the North end of the field 400 yards away. There was a fork down there chasing them. I was watching through the binos and back past them on the top of a ridge I saw him. I said "HOLY S$%^" Tommy said dad why did you say that naughty word? I told him I had just seen the monster we were looking for. He was about 600-800 yards. He was in another friends pasture. There are several fence rows that come together in that area. The wind was not in our favor to try a stalk. So for now he is safe, but I have seen him, he tipped his hand tonight. Now I have to play my cards right. Who knows if I will get a chance at him, let alone see him again, BUT I know he is around and I know the ground. At 600-800 yards the rack looked massive, wide, tall and several points on each side. I wouldn't count points until it is on the ground. At a glance he is a shooter, those deer don't give you too many chances for a shot. So now the hunt is on.

Here is Tommy in the blind.

This is him with his 45-10 Marlin.

I don't know if the 4x4 is visable at the end of the mowed patch at the field.

This gives an idea of just how tall the switch grass is, you can't see the truck.

Deer season starts tomorrow!!! DEAD DEER!!

    Get'm dude!

I've been hunting just about every morning and night this week and ran into the big guy tonight when I walked out of my house to walk over to my parents (about 70 yards behind my house). A 150 class buck was chasing my "yard" doe around the yard! Crap, this evening I was about 1 mile east of my house!
