    Shot the Skinner Barrel Peep

Well, I finally mounted my new-to-me Skinner Sights 1894 barrel sight and it works great! The upper left hole in the pic is from my son shooting his 336 30-30 @ 100 yards but the other three larger holes are from my 1894 at about 35 yards. Both of us used the hood of the truck (boy, it was hot on the elbows!) We taped a target onto a burned out Ford Explorer so we got to hear the satisfying "clank" of the bullets after they tore through paper.

The Skinner barrel peep is very natural and much easier to my eyes, vs. the original buckhorn sight on my CCB .45LC. The metal tang on this gun does not have 2 holes drilled in it like most 1894's, and I did not want to drill into it to install a tang sight if I didn't have to. Now I don't have to! We can dial it in more but I am really happy with this Skinner, purchased from another member on the Trading Post.

Not the tightest group ever posted on Marlinowners.com but with Wally World-purchased factory target loads and the first 3 shots taken upon installation, I love it.

Definitely ''Minute of Deer.'' Nice to see the son in the shooting fraternity, take care. Just keep on keeping on, John.

Thanks, but my son made the pictured upper left hole (the smaller one) from 100 yards with his 336 30-30 which sports a vintage Redfield scope.

The other three from my 1894 .45LC were taken from 35 yards using the Skinner peep. That's why I'm being modest, those were not long distance shots. BUT, I just had to praise Andy's peep sight, it was so easy to use.

    I love the barrel-mount sights.
In fact, I ordered 2 more just a minute before reading this post.

If you've used the factory sights then these feel natural, and are MUCH better in my opinion.

Sorry for assuming the shots were from iron sights, I did'nt see where a scope was mentioned and thought your son did it with iron, regardless that still good shooting on his part.

I have the same rifle and have pondered getting the same sight since the rifle is not d&t'ed. My question is, have you shot a rifle with skinner sights mounted on the receiver? And if so do you find with the barrel mounted skinner it takes you're eyes longer to acquire the sight picture being farther away?
    Thanks
