    Marlin Serial Number DeCoding

What's the format for decoding serial numbers? Can one determined by the serial number what proof mark will be on the rifle?

Subtract the 1st 2 numbers from 100. Pretty simple.

And if you need to know more, just look here:

    Re: Marlin Serial Number DeCoding

What Halwg listed works fine from about 1973 to 2008. The 91 series in 2009 was continued on through 2010 and in the first Ilion NY production. Sometime late last year Remington ran out of North Haven built recievers and they started using a serial number that starts with MR. The best way to tell if a gun was made in North Haven or Ilion, look at the proofmark on the side of the barrel just forward of the reciever. JM on the left, built by Marlin. REP on the right side and it was built by Remington.

    Hope this helps.

    Check here

    Marlins Manufactured for Private Brands

The Adobe Acrobat pdf file posted here by Swany shows that the Coast to Coast model 40 is the same as a Marlin model 99.
